HOMEMADE LOFI PSYCH --- WHERE TO START?

"There is so much great music here..." WHERE TO START???

I recommend to
start with the HLFP-Samplers (especially HLFP 04).
Here you will come to know many of the bands/musicians featured in this blog. If you like what you hear, you may check out more of their music later on.
(You may also click on the picture on the sidebar and you will find the original post with download links.)

There is also a "FOCUS ON..." section. Here you will find albums that imo are absolutely great (***** = "five-stars-recordings") and that are essential listening and strongly recommended for download.

I TRY to RE-UP some stuff that has been down from time to

time, but I still don't have enough time to

listen to/post much new stuff.

Sorry!

Sacred Shrines – Hung Up On Your Wall (AUSTRALIA 2014) Video

"Hung Up on your Wall," taken from their recent 7 inch release.

"We're a psychedelic band based in Brisbane, Australia and are currently working on our debut record.  We also recently supported The Dandy Warhols on their Australian tour.

We would be stoked if you would check out our latest clip."

Nice piece of retro psychedelic from Australia, that reminds me of some of the stuff that I used to do with my friends in the old days ... You know, get into the right mood and get dressed in strange costumes and make a Super-8-movie to be projected against the wall during the next gig.
Well, those were the days, my friends! But has it really changed that much?
Obviously not. And that is great!

Rangers - Session Man (USA 2014)

RANGERS from Texas has a new album out on bandcamp for streaming or purchase.

As the older blog readers probably will remember I'm a big fan of RANGERS' work, especially his early, quite lofi collage recordings (still available here on HLFP).
This new release Session Man is much more structured but still excellent and simply beautiful. And it still has that special guitar sound that I enjoy so much.

If you don't know RANGERS yet you should really check him out. If you do know him already you surely will do so anyway.

Enjoy!
And support the artists featured on HLFP!

Here are a couple of YouTube-videos:

RE-UP by Request: Captain Fartfish And His Careful Muffins - Live, Woodstöckchen 1987 (GER.)

CAPTAIN FARTFISH AND HIS CAREFUL MUFFINS was a psychedelic jam band from Germany, operating between 1987 and 1989 in the Odenwald area near Darmstadt. The three man band was heavily influenced by ZAPPA (especially Zappa's guitar playing – and also his humor), CAPTAIN BEEFHEART AND HIS MAGIC BAND (around his most experimental phase, 1969) and Free Rock/Free Jazz (in the mood of early GURU GURU for example).
What makes this band so special is the excellent guitar playing of both Holger B. and Daniel P. Caesar (later SUPERKING & THE FIRE ACTIONORANGE among others). It's most of the time quite heavy (the brilliant "Shotokan") and/or very experimental ("Little Insects...", "... Deep Sea Fish").

Another weapon especially for this gig here was the trombone played in an unnerving Free-Jazz-CAPTAIN BEEFHEART-style ("The Captain Whips It Out"...).

The Woodstöckchen (= Little Woodstock) was a small (private party) underground festival, May 1987, in some vineyards near Heppenheim an der Bergstraße. Imagine an improvised stage in front of a small crowd of chatty stoned local freaks in the sunshine and you will get the picture...

http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B00NB2JNW0?*

Link: Draw Down The Distance
(mp3 - high quality @320)

INFORMATION FOR ALL ENGLISH-SPEAKING READERS:
I hope that in the near future I'll be able to pay a native speaking british/american translator to translate my psychedelic science-fiction novel into English ... Anyone?

I post the song "Draw Down the Distance" by CLOUD NINE here for the reason, that it is kind of a theme song of the Book PSYCHONAUT.
In the book it is a smash hit by ZEDs (the main character's) psychedelic rock band ORANGE CLOUD.

UND JETZT MAL WAS GANZ ANDERES – FÜR MEINE DEUTSCHSPRECHENDEN LESER

Hallo!

Heute mal in Deutsch für alle Deutsch sprechenden/verstehenden Leser meines Blogs.

Juhu,

http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B00M851590?

GEDANKENSPLITTER
Begegnung
Rock-Musiker (noch klein!)

WARUM SCHAUST DU MICH SO AN? – DIE „IRGENDWIE ABGEDREHTEN“ GESCHICHTEN
Geschichte von einem Zimmer
Der Jogger
Der Blick

ABGESPACET! – PSYCHEDELISCHE SCIENCE-FICTION-STORYS
Tausend explodierende Sonnen
Tetos Trip (Auszug aus dem Science-Fiction-Roman „Psychonaut“)

SKURRILE WEIHNACHTEN!

Mike

REPOST by Request: POET ZERO (Orange, Ephemerol...) - Vanille Club, Radio X (GER. 2002)

POET ZERO (aka MAXIM ENGL) of EPHEMEROL fame doing a solo acoustic radio concert, broadcast 09-17-2002 on "VANILLE CLUB", RADIO X, Frankfurt a. M., Germany, performing songs from his solo repertoire as well as his former bands/projects THE JANITORS OF LUNACYORANGESPACE TRUCKINand PAN AMP.
This is an edited version of the broadcast, because some cover versions of songs by TIM BUCKLEY, NICK DRAKE and BLACK SABBATH, that POET ZERO
also performed on that day, had to be left out for copyright reasons...

The highlights probably "Stanley Kubrick's Diaries" (compare to the electric version by the JANITORS OF LUNACY here) and "Magic Spell" (also performed many times live by ORANGE). At the end of "Magic Spell" you can hear a quote from "Neil's Elevator", which fits in here perfectly...
Enjoy!

Re-Up by request: Mr. Dean - il Grande (IT 2009)

"this is my last "solo-mad-lonely at home with EXTREMELY low budget-album" but although his hundreds of thousends of flaws, i think it sounds pretty nice. -- i'm a semi-professional (whatever means) musician playing alternative and tradional rock with my band in italy, but from time to time i can't help trying to find other ways to approach music/sound. -- by myself, i've always recorded improvisations. every single track and every word of this record are improvisations. -- instruments: acoustic guitar, 10euros and 10 years old and half broken audio equipment, mac. -- the album is, of course, in italian. i'm afraid it loses a lot of meaning if you don't understand it, but, who cares about meaning anyway."
(Mr. Dean, 2009)

I sadly don't speak Italian - so I've got no idea what MR. DEAN is singing about, but maybe that's not really that important (B.t.w.: Of course the artists featured on HLFP alone are responsible for lyrical and musical content of their work posted here!). Anyway: What surely comes through, is that this is very intense music - and that is pretty cool, if you want my opinion. Most of the songs are rather simple regarding the arrangements: mostly only one or two guitars - acoustic or electric - and a voice singing or screaming or moaning or whispering... But often there is something slightly weird going on, an unexpected twist or some unusual tuning or whatever - something that make those songs a little ... hmm, weird. Some kind of experimental lofi approach, and I really love that. Enjoy!

Favourite tracks: 'Spettri' and 'Bisonte'
